"Top wine was strongly agreed on: concentrated, plush and yet quite elegant, with soft tannins, balanced oak and spot on ripeness."

- Huon Hooke

THE STORY

Tagai ‘Scar Tree’ Shiraz is named after an ancient red gum standing on the banks of the Bremer River in Langhorne Creek, South Australia. This old red gum overlooks the Shiraz vineyard where fruit for this wine is sourced. Tagai (the tree) was scarred long ago by aborigines resident to the area and part of its bark removed to make a canoe. Scar trees or canoe trees are some of Australia’s oldest living archeological sites and can be seen throughout Australia.

This vineyard has been lovingly tended by one family for over 120 years and the quality of the fruit is world class. This has been proven by our first vintage winning Trophy for Best Shiraz at the Australian Boutique Wine Awards 2014 along with Champion Wine and Best Shiraz at the 2016 Langhorne Creek Wine Show.

We are proud to showcase what Langhorne Creek the area has to offer as one of Australia’s oldest grape growing regions and one of the unsung heroes of the Australian wine industry.

Wine is the a sum of many parts - quality in grape growing and winemaking, great design in packaging, care in getting to where it is sold and expertise and quality in wine service.

Tagai ‘Scar Tree’ Shiraz

the wine

Unique nuances in flavour and aroma that each vintage provides.

Tagai ‘Scar Tree’ Shiraz is our flagship wine. It is made with a particular style in mind rather than any reliance on a specified vineyard or parcel of fruit. That said, all the fruit comes from the same vineyard. Every year a selection is made from small batches of wine, made separately, which are blended together to showcase a unique Langhorne Creek style of Shiraz.

The wine style is less reliant on power, impact, alcohol and oak. Instead a strong focus is on primary Shiraz fruit flavours using unique nuances in flavour and aroma that each vintage provides. Aiming for spice and ripeness and most of all complexity. We hope you will agree!

the wine range

The Stars of Tagai wine range shares its philosophy and origins with Tagai ‘Scar Tree’ Shiraz - with both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines coming from the same vineyard in Langhorne Creek. This family of grape growers have been tending this vineyard for over 120 years. Keeping that relationship close, we have sourced our Pinot Gris from their family vineyard on Kangaroo Island. This Kangaroo Island vineyard was first planted in 1999 and grows exceptional Pinot Gris.
